At an international symposium for intraoperative neurostimulation (Vienna, Austria), Prof. Philipp Riss was invited to give the opening talk about “Intraoperative Neuromonitoring in thyroid surgery”.

Further information regarding intraoperative monitoring of the recurrent laryngeal nerve:

During thyroidectomy, the nervous supply of the vocal cords (vagal nerve and recurrent laryngeal nerve) is stimulated by standard to avoid the most feared complication: bilateral vocal cord palsy.
Additionally, a possible difficult course of the recurrent laryngeal nerve can be detected and the nerve dissected meticulously.
