{"id":959,"date":"2022-09-19T09:22:08","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T07:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.riss.cc\/?p=959"},"modified":"2022-09-19T09:25:03","modified_gmt":"2022-09-19T07:25:03","slug":"avoiding-hypoparathyroidism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.riss.cc\/?p=959&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Avoiding Hypoparathyroidism"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As part of the Swiss Surgeon Congress &#x1f1e8;&#x1f1ed;, I was invited to give a lecture on <strong>how to avoid parathyroid underfunction<\/strong> (&#8222;#hypoparathyroidism&#8220;) after thyroid surgery.<br \/>By illuminating with a laser beam, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.riss.cc\/?tag=parathyroid\">#parathyroid<\/a> glands are better recognized and can thus be preserved. Furthermore, at the end of the operation, the blood flow in the parathyroid gland can be shown with a dye.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4>Why is the topic so important?<\/h4>\n<p>Currently, hypofunction of the parathyroid glands is the most common complication after thyroidectomy. 15-25% of patients therefore need to take calcium and active vitamin D temporarily (a few days or weeks).
